Record of CCI RK Activity in the Sphere of Exhibitions

Exhibitions are not a new activity of the CCI of RK but have rather a long and successful record, virtually, from the date of foundation of the Chamber.

As far back as the 80s, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry was responsible for the preparation of the Kazakhstan’s section at the international fairs organized by CCI of the Kazakh SSR. The Central Staff of the CCI of Kazakh SSR included the Department of International and Foreign Exhibitions which implemented the coordination of exhibition activities and exhibitions and was responsible for the transportation and customs support and technical support services for the events.

In 1991, due to the vigorous activity and growth of the Department and increased number of held events and rendered services, it became necessary to establish a specialized firm, KazExpo under the CCI of RK which subsequently organized the expositions of Kazakhstan in France (1992 - Savoy, Dijon), Italy (1992 and 1993 - Genoa, 1994 – Milan) and the ASPAT-96 International Exhibition in Manila. In 1998 in Almaty there was held the SPAT-98 exhibition and вy order of the Government, the Kazakhstani exposition at the World Fair in Lisbon, EXPO-98 was organized. All of this has proved to be a support for several territorial Chambers to develop actively in this direction and soon act as an independent organizer of exhibitions in their regions (the CCIs of RK in Astana, Pavlodar, Kostanai, Karaganda and North Kazakhstan).

New Laws and Functions of CCI of RK in the Sphere of Exhibition and Fair Activities

On May 3, 2005, a new Law on the Chambers of Commerce and Industry was adopted. This Law has officially acknowledged and secured for the CCI of RK a possibility to implement the exhibition and fair activities. The CCI of RK has been assigned the function to run the Register of conducted international exhibitions, national and regional exhibitions held in the Republic and international exhibitions abroad participated by the Republic of Kazakhstan. This function implies the coordination of exhibition activity in the Republic, collection, analysis and provision of information on the held fairs and exhibitions, international trade turnover and payments.

Subsequent to the novel legislation, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan was reorganized, a separate Department responsible for the exhibition and fair activities was established and a staff from high-qualified experts has been formed. In the beginning of the year the Concept o Development of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of RK has been elaborated and approved. It determines the principal directions of the activity of CCI of RK on the fulfillment of obligations imposed on the Chamber by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Goals and Objectives of Exhibition Activity

Lines of activity:

• Elaboration of consistent strategy for the development of legal framework for the exhibition and fair activity. Preparation of draft normative and legal acts. Elaboration of Concept on the Development of exhibition and fair activity in the Republic of Kazakhstan;
• Organization of international and national exhibitions and Kazakhstani expositions at the most important international exhibitions abroad;
• Monitoring of exhibition activity. Issue of proposals on the elaboration of efficient mechanism of coordination and support of exhibition and fair activity;
• Formation of principles on the creation of self-regulatory organizations in the sphere of exhibition business. Proposals on establishing equal competitive environment. Assistance in programming the development of material and technical base of exhibition and fair activity;
• Interaction with the CIS Interstate Council on the exhibition and fair activity. Organization of work of the Department for Exhibition and Fair Activity and support of manufacturers and exporters;
• Work with international exhibition organizations (the International Exhibitions Bureau, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry);
• Elaboration of mechanism for assisting and coordinating the exhibition and fair activity of territorial CCI. Development of methodological recommendations regarding the exhibition and fair activity, and training of personnel.
